Chihuahua hair loss... help please!?

my little 12 wk old long haired chihuahua was running around in the bathroom and bumped into the shower door. he lost a little bit of hair on the spot he bumped, and he hasnt been scratching it, although he has been scratching else where on his body. its been about a week now, and it hasnt gotten any better. the bump doesnt seem to bother him much but im just worried because there has been more hair loss.

we did swich his food if that helps anything.

any and all help appreciated! thx! :)Chihuahua hair loss... help please!?
The bump into the wall and the hair loss probably aren't related. I would recommend taking your pup into the vet and having them check for skin mites, or ringworm. I would also recommend that you check him for fleas as a lot of scratching can irritate the skin and cause hair loss.

Edit: where is your pup scratching? Common places for dogs with fleas will scratch near the hind flanks and near the collar area. Or is the pup scratching at the ears? Ear mites might be another possibility.

Edit...: I would recommend setting up an appointment for skin mites(i.e. mange) or ear mites. Or even ringworm!Chihuahua hair loss... help please!?
well it could be worms, flees, mange if its the worms deworming is easy enough check the dogs umm....XD for white worms if not that give the dog a bath with dawn soup the thikness of that soup kills them fast...if its mange or any other kind of skin condition blue star ointment would get rid of it

FYI: i have the same breed of dog as u that had a similar problem i found out the breed can be highly alergic to flees so u might wanna try the dawn soup first the blue star ointment works great for skin conditions mange molds ect but it can cause farther fur loss befor the problem gets fixed
You mean he started itching after the food change? Or he itched so you changed his food. A quality food never is a bad choice unless the dog is allergic. Your vet can check for other problems. Fleas or mites can cause intense itching. A lot of scratching can remove hair.
take him to the Vet. He may need to be checked for mange. Hairloss isn't normal unless something's gone haywire.
